FAQ’s

I have a gift card, how do I use it to make a reservation online?

All reservations require a credit card to enforce our cancellation policy, even if you plan to pay with a gift card. At check-out, after your time at the bathhouse, you may choose to use your gift card as payment.

Do I have to give a credit card to make a reservation online?

Yes, all reservations require a credit card on file to enforce our cancellation policy. At check-out, after your time at the bathhouse, you may choose to use your preferred form of payment.

I need to cancel an appointment but can't figure out how to do it online...

Cancellations within 24 hours of the reservation time, can’t be done online due to our cancellation policy. Please call or email to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment. If you call, leave a message.

if there's no availability on your website, what about walk-ins?

If you don’t see any open reservations, we’re most likely full. Here’s the few exceptions:

  • Sometimes we can create a custom retreat day package that doesn’t show up online.
  • After 8pm we may have space that doesn’t show online, however, pool areas close at 9:45 so your bathhouse time will be more limited.

I'm running late, can I still come?

Of course, though please understand it will cut into your reservation time and possibly cause a check-in delay.

What about e-readers? (like a kindle)

The bathhouse is 100% device free for all guests at all times, e-readers included.

Here’s a bit about why:

  • E-readers can cause confusion and other guests may easily get the impression that it’s okay to be on a phone, ipad, etc.
  • We’re sensitive to the impact of camera’s on the general comfort and privacy of our guests, and we don’t want guests to worry about them.
  • While e-readers may not have texting, phone, or camera capabilities, we don’t want to monitor which type of digital device each person is using and what it’s various capabilities are. We simply want to offer a space where people get to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with themselves.

Can I wear my smart watch?

Smart watches may not be worn in the bathhouse.

Here’s a bit about why:

  • Texting, talking, buzzing, dings, etc. all take away from the environment we work hard to create and promise our community. Too often, regardless of one’s intention, these things happen even when a watch is worn for other purposes.
  • Camera’s impact the general comfort and privacy of our guests, and we don’t want them in the bathing area.
  • We don’t want to monitor how each person is or isn’t using their various digital devices. We simply want to offer a space where people get to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with themselves.

If an Urban Baths employee asks me to follow the house etiquette, should I rudely refuse?

If you don’t like etiquette reminders from our team, we get it. (It’s no fun giving them either!) But try to remember, Urban Baths employees are real human beings just doing their job to make sure our bathhouse is the refuge we promise it will be for everyone.

is there chlorine in the pools?

Per the CA Health code, chlorine must be used. We carefully manage the water and use multiple other non-chemical filtration methods: Ozone, UV light, a sand filter, and constant water replacement to greatly reduce the amount of chlorine as compared to probably every other public pool setting. We care deeply about the cleanliness of the water and go way above and beyond health department requirements to meet our own high standards.

why no jets?

Our warm pools are inspired by the philosophy that the state of the water affects our state of mind. We like to say: Calm waters cultivate a tranquil mind. Also, they’re super loud and totally change the vibe.

why don't you have shampoo, lotion, etc?

We take a minimalist approach that allows us to keep our prices low, as compared to a typical spa that would include more products for a much higher drop-in rate. By offering only the essentials (hand and body soap) you can bring your own products and drop-in for less or upgrade with one of our DIY facial or body treatments.

what's it like for trans folks at Urban Baths?

We do everything in our power to make Urban Baths a safe place for LGBTQ+ communities.  All changing spaces, restrooms, and bathhouse spaces are all-gender. All restrooms and changing stalls are private. Bathing suits are required and covering up to your own comfort level is welcome. Bullying, bigotry, or anti-LGBTQ hate speech will not be tolerated and, at this point, has thankfully never occurred.

does Urban Baths meet ADA requirements?

Everything we offer meets ADA requirements and we’re here to help if something extra is ever needed. Our pools are accessible by using a transfer wall.
